Immigration Reform is pretty much dead in the water if you believe pronouncements by Speaker John Boehner, R-OH. Speaker Boehner has capitulated and is backing the most rigid members of his caucus by refusing to allow the caucus to conference with the U.S. Senate over the comprehensive immigration bill passed by the Senate. That is why, President Obama has made it clear that he is willing to consider the piecemeal approach that is favored by the House of Representatives.
As the President said during a speech in San Francisco on Monday, "We can carve that bird if you want," said Mr. Obama, who will pardon a Thanksgiving turkey on Wednesday after he returns to Washington. "Drumstick here, breast meat there - as long as all the pieces get done soon."
President Obama has not given up hope on immigration. Neither should we. There is still hope that Congress could actually do something smart about our failed immigration system. I encourage everyone to keep the pressure on Congress to do the "right thing" regarding immigration reform. You can do your part by visiting Miley & Brown, P.C. at www.mileybrown.com and selecting "Contact Congress" to tell your Representative that you support even piece meal immigration legislation that will bring our immigration system into the 21st century by legalizing millions of aspiring immigrants and creating jobs for U.S. workers. Also, if you have any questions regarding immigration and nationality law, you may contact one of our Dallas based attorneys at the same web site.
